The Amazon rainforest exhibits a markedly higher level of diversity in biocontrol agents than other Brazilian regions. Despite this, there have been few studies dedicated to exploring the bioprospecting potential of natural enemies found within the Amazon. Subsequently, the enlargement of agricultural land in recent decades has led to a decrease in biodiversity within this region, encompassing the loss of potential biocontrol agents, due to the replacement of native forests with cultivated areas and forest deterioration. This study examined the principal groups of natural enemies, including predatory mites (primarily Acari Phytoseiidae), lady beetles (Coleoptera Coccinellidae), and social wasps (Hymenoptera Vespidae Polistinae), within the Brazilian Legal Amazon, alongside Hymenoptera egg parasitoids (Trichogrammatidae) and fruit-feeding larval parasitoids (Braconidae and Figitidae). The featured species used and prospected for biological control are showcased and explained in detail. This paper discusses the lack of understanding surrounding these natural enemy groups, and the considerable challenges presented by conducting research in the Amazon region.

Research on animals consistently highlights the importance of the suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN, also referred to as the master circadian clock) in governing sleep-wake patterns. Nevertheless, in-vivo human investigations of the SCN remain in their early stages of development. Resting-state fMRI technology now allows for the investigation of SCN connectivity changes in individuals experiencing chronic insomnia disorder (CID). This research consequently aimed to investigate whether the sleep-wake neural network, particularly the communication between the SCN and other brain areas, is compromised in individuals with human insomnia. Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) scans were performed on 42 patients with conditions involving chronic inflammation disease (CID) and 37 healthy controls. Functional connectivity analysis, encompassing resting-state and Granger causality, was undertaken to identify atypical SCN connectivity patterns in CID patients. Clinical symptom relationships with disrupted connectivity features were explored through correlation analyses. Compared to healthy controls, cerebrovascular disease (CID) patients showed a boost in resting-state functional connectivity in the suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN)-left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC) circuit, and a reduction in SCN-bilateral medial prefrontal cortex (MPFC) connectivity. These altered cortical regions are involved in the top-down cognitive system. Patients with CID also showed a disturbance in the functional and causal connectivity between the SCN and the locus coeruleus (LC) and the raphe nucleus (RN); these modified subcortical regions are part of the bottom-up pathway. The duration of CID was observed to be linked to a reduction in the causal connectivity between the LC and the SCN, a key observation. It is suggested by these findings that the disruption of the SCN-centered top-down cognitive process, in conjunction with the bottom-up wake-promoting pathway, may be fundamentally related to the neuropathology of CID.

To provide a uniform, comparative index at each estuary, sixteen metrics evaluating fish community attributes (diversity, composition, abundance), estuarine use, and trophic integrity were used. Data were collected from 2016 to 2019. A sensitivity examination was carried out to evaluate the EMFI's reactions under shifting metric conditions. This comprehensive study, using the EMFI, constitutes the first record of predominantly open estuaries along the Indian coast. Therefore, the EMFI derived from this study can be persuasively promoted as a robust, efficient, and multi-faceted instrument for assessing ecological quality in tropical open transitional waters.
